Launched in 1999, the Amtrak Acela made history as the first high-speed train service in North America, running between Washington D.C., New York City, and Boston at speeds upwards of 150MPH. Today, the Acela service continues to push the envelope for speed and modernity in the Northeast with the introduction of a new generation of hi-tech trains from Alstom. Featuring the latest high-speed technology, the Acela II provides a substantial increase in both the speed and capacity on this popular intercity route. Note: These add-on cars feature a unique coupling system and are only compatible with other Acela II cars.
