Description

Unlike most other suet feeders, when the suet compartment metal plate is in place, the Suet Palace keeps squirrels, pesky Starlings and Grackles from eating the suet. When this feeder is hung high from the ground, Grackles and Starlings don't often feed at this style of feeder so you can take the plate out. Now, large Woodpeckers like Flickers, Sapsuckers, Red Headed, Red Bellied, and even Pileated Woodpeckers can hang from the bottom and feed. Holes on the sides are 1.5 inches X 1.5 inches and the bottom is .5 inches X .5 inches..

    Suet Palace Caged Bird Feeder

Posted by Margaret A Patterson on Jul 14th 2020

This would be a nice feeder if it didn't have such a flimsy hanging chain. It broke within 8 hours. I had to go to the hardware store, purchase heavier chain and wrestle with attaching it. At 80 years of age, I didn't appreciate having to do this but, it was either that or going through the hassle of boxing it up and going to the Post Office or UPS store.

Songbird Essentials suet palace caged feeder

Posted by Diana on Jul 2nd 2020

Advertised as squirrel resistant, it only keeps squirrels out if bottom barrier is in place, which largely limits the birds that will use feeder. It took titmice and chickadee days to warm up to feeder, but most birds small enough to enter cage won’t. They just don’t find it attractive. Finally I removed bottom barrier and resorted to pepper suet, which squirrels won’t eat. But most songbirds just won’t use the thing. I believe they think it’s a jail instead of a palace. It is otherwise made well and strong, but is simply not conducive to bird watching. I did see a wren go in once, though.

    Suet Palace

Posted by Carol J Charles on May 31st 2020

I love this suet feeder. I was losing all my suet to starlings and this feeder effectively keeps them away. The squirrels don't even try to get into it. I had a similar feeder in the past, but I prefer this one because it holds only 2 blocks of suet instead of 3 and the cover protects the suet from sun, rain and bird droppings. I recommend this suet feeder.
