Goldfinches LOVE This Feeder! (I though, see a...

Posted by Barry Scheps on Mar 12th 2025

The flocks of goldfinches that visit my house with regularity took to this new, 3-tube feeder IMMEDIATELY after setting it out! Many times during the day (provided, of course, the tubes are totally filled) they occupy EVERY one of its 24 perches, giving quite a beautiful display indeed! However, immediately upon extricating this new feeder from its box, a little problem with its design became apparent: Each of the seed-tubes are "stabilized" on the feeder's 6, long, metal rods (yes, they are metal .. not plastic) by friction-alone. Therefore, the tubes frequently become misaligned, causing uneven spacing of the individual perches, as well the tubes themselves. I find that I must reposition the tubes/rods almost EVERY time a re-fill is needed (and, with ALL "my" birds that flock to this, that is daily)! A series of tiny elastic bands (18 total) are already provided and are "strapped" to the individual rods to AID in preventing such shifting of the tubes (however, they are hardly sufficient in preventing the misalignment issue altogether) and all those 18 little bands, as well must be slid back into their proper positions against the tubes on a frequent basis. This also represents an issue (and accompanying headache, I daresay) whenever complete disassembly is necessary for thorough CLEANING of the feeder (as you must then remember to systemically slide the bands back onto the rods in their PROPER PLACES during reassembly) and not to LOSE any of them?!
